Apptio’s thing, if you will, is doing IT cost tracking as a SaaS. In a nut-shell, their stuff mines usage and cost related data in organizations, provides some modeling and mapping, and then tells tries to tell you how much your IT is costing you.

Sunny Gupta is sharing details about his secretive Bellevue startup Apptio, which the serial entrepreneur says could change the way corporations think about their IT spending. Gupta, who previously worked in executive roles at iConclude (sold to Opsware) and Performant (sold to Mercury Interactive), says Apptio is attempting to help companies get a better handle on IT expenses, everything from laptops to data centers.

Apptio announced its official debut. The company formally launched the Apptio on-demand offering that enables enterprises worldwide to monitor the costs of IT products and services.
