Apptio Now Provides The Industry’s Most Comprehensive View Of Cloud Costs

BELLEVUE, Wash., May 7, 2015 — Apptio®, the leading provider of cloud-based Technology Business Management (TBM) software, today announced the addition of CenturyLink Cloud and SoftLayer to its growing portfolio of cloud provider billing integrations. In addition to earlier integrations of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure billing data, Apptio is now the leading automated provider of public, private, and hybrid cloud IT cost management. The company also released the latest version of its foundational Cost Transparency (CT) application today, which enables IT leaders to make more confident, fact-based decisions about their IT spend.

With these new partner integrations, IT leaders can now directly source their cloud billing data from providers such as AWS, Azure, CenturyLink, and SoftLayer. Automating this process provides Apptio customers with the ability to view their IT costs within the context of their entire investment portfolio, empowering IT leaders to make data-driven decisions about cloud investments.

“As a result of our agreement, CenturyLink Cloud and Apptio customers will have a significant analytical advantage over competitors that lack sophisticated cost management capabilities,” said David Shacochis, vice president of cloud ecosystem at CenturyLink. “Our joint customers now have access to a detailed understanding of their total cloud investment and how that spending can be optimized to free up resources for innovation around their core differentiators.”

“Applying Apptio’s TBM approach to our use of cloud allows us to accurately report and track consumption of cloud based infrastructure and manage the overall IT costs,” said James LaPlaine, SVP of Technology Operations at AOL. “We are a consumer of public cloud, and just like our on-premise infrastructure, our financial model of IT includes all costs associated with public cloud usage. Apptio provides us a single place to see the IT costs and metrics of consumption for our entire portfolio of IT services.”

Apptio is able to provide its customers with an unmatched view of their cloud spend as a result of several technical enhancements to its Cost Transparency application. These include improved analytics for understanding public and private cloud total cost of ownership (TCO), the ability to perform side-by-side cost and unit cost measurement, and deeper analysis across production and non-production environments of hybrid computing.

“Public and private cloud investments are becoming one of the fastest-growing and most important segments of IT spend,” said Ted Kummert, EVP of Engineering at Apptio. “These new integrations allow for out-of-the-box connectors and improved costing capabilities that strengthen our overall cloud competencies and give our enterprise customers an easy way to understand, manage, and optimize their cloud investments.”
