Nationwide Building Society Selects Apptio to Bring Cost Transparency to Its IT Modernization and Customer Service Initiatives

BELLEVUE, Wash., April 2, 2015 — Apptio, the leading provider of Technology Business Management (TBM) SaaS applications, today announced Nationwide Building Society, one of the world’s largest retail financial service providers, has selected Apptio’s solutions to optimize the measurement of the cost, quality, and value of its enterprise IT services. Nationwide’s TBM journey is detailed in two new case studies, available today from Forrester Research and Apptio.

With Apptio’s Cost Transparency application, Nationwide expects to save between $9 and 12 million (£6-8M) of its IT costs in the first year of implementation. These savings are a result of Nationwide’s ability to optimize costs in areas such as software licensing ATM performance and outsourced vendor contracts. Nationwide’s IT team is also leveraging Apptio’s powerful TBM SaaS applications to provide insights to their business partners on their IT spend, optimize multi-channel service, and to drive better decisions and business outcomes.

Prior to implementing Apptio, one of the biggest issues Nationwide’s IT department faced was a lack of transparency into the cost of the technology it provided the business, the unit cost of delivery, and the actual running cost of IT. Debra Bailey, Chief Information Officer, said: “We needed a method to bring clarity and transparency to the way we counted the cost of IT, and to be able to connect it to things like property costs more easily. The advantage TBM gives is that we can take a view of both the IT and Finance costs from multiple angles.”

Colin Rowland, VP of EMEA at Apptio, concludes: “Apptio powers some of the world’s largest and most innovative IT organizations. Financial institutions like Nationwide need greater visibility over their IT costs so they can deliver insights that support optimization and growth and, ultimately, to run IT as a business. We look forward to working with Nationwide as it continues its journey to become the largest building ‘digital’ society.”
