Join us at AWS re:Invent 2020

  • Amanda Mitchell
  • November 19, 2020

AWS re:Invent 2020 is upon us. Usually around this time, we are writing about things like parties, trendy restaurants, the show-floor layout, 5K fun runs, and where to find our booth. Of course, with all things 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic is making this year’s re:Invent like no other – this time AWS’ annual conference for the global cloud computing community, to be held November 30 - December 18, is 100% virtual and free.

We will all miss the in-person festivities, catching up with colleagues, and bringing kitschy booth swag home to our kids, but bringing Las Vegas to your home office has a distinct advantage: This is a huge opportunity to gain access to the vast amounts of Amazon Web Services content that would normally only be available to those who attend the in-person event in Las Vegas. Moreover, this year’s re:Invent will “follow the sun,” so broadcasts will repeat in multiple time zones – the schedule is friendly to all attendees, regardless of your location. The flexibility to attend any re:Invent session you want, in any order you want, means you can get it all in.

And Apptio Cloudability will be with you on this virtual journey. We are proud to be a platinum sponsor at this year’s event, and we are excited to contribute some of the educational content. Registration is open and you can also follow us on Linkedin for all the latest updates and announcements. We are looking forward to meeting you there - virtually. In the meantime, here is some of what you can look forward to.

AWS happenings

The AWS re:Invent 2020 agenda won’t skimp on substance. There will be the traditional variety of session topics, tracks, certifications, and live keynote speakers that should not be missed, such as AWS CEO Andy Jassy, AWS partners, and technologists including AWS’ machine-learning gurus.

AWS-hosted Cloud Financial Management breakout sessions

We may be biased, but we think the AWS breakout sessions on cloud financial management will be the highlight of the show. Here’s a glimpse of the online schedule for these breakout sessions as described by AWS. (An expert panel will be available online to answer live questions during the initial broadcast.)

ENT 201: Billing Control and Cost Management (Dec.1, 1:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. Pacific Time): Discussion on how to maintain control of cloud cost to avoid billing surprises. This session focuses on how to manage tools, such as AWS Identity & Access Management and AWS Organizations.

ENT 210: Cost Allocation Best Practices (Dec.9, 11:15 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. Pacific Time): Discussion on how to establish your cost allocation structure.

ENT 212: Improve Strategic IT Planning (Dec.15, 10:45 a.m. -11:15 a.m. Pacific Time): Discussion on how to make better investment decisions with business KPIs; establish targets to measure performance with benchmarking data; and improve forecasting accuracy with trend-based and/or event-driven methods.

ENT 212 – Identifying and Realizing the Business Value of AWS (Dec.17, 2 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Pacific Time): Discussion that shares data-driven methodologies about identifying and quantifying the values of cloud investment.

Wondering what Apptio is up to during this year’s AWS re:Invent?

Casey Doran, head of cloud product management, Apptio Cloudability, will lead a session on The Definitive Guide for Kubernetes Cost Management. During this session, Casey will discuss how the rapid adoption of containers provides endless technical possibilities, while also creating the challenge of accurately attributing those costs to the right application, team, or business unit. Those who join this session with Casey will come away with best practices for container cost management as well as a view into Apptio’s broader strategy for cloud financial management, including SaaS applications and cloud migration.

Session details:  ID: MGT281-S

Date and time: Thursday, December 10, 2:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. Pacific Time

Looking forward to the cloud financial management conversation

It's been an interesting and busy year for the global cloud computing community as a whole. At Apptio, we've been delivering features like Amazon S3 Rightsizing Recommendations, which provides visibility into bucket-level metrics and surfaces rightsizing recommendations to uncover cost savings opportunities within their S3 spend. We also released new functionality to fully integrate Kubernetes containers into your broader cloud financial management process, which means you can view Kubernetes costs alongside other cloud costs. Apptio also has new technical integrations with partners such as observability platform provider New Relic. We are looking forward to sharing these features, and many more that Apptio Cloudability has to offer, during the three weeks we are together at AWS re:Invent.

Stay tuned to this space for more Apptio updates on AWS re:Invent 2020.
