BELLEVUE, WASH. – May 5, 2011 – Apptio, the leading provider of on-demand Technology Business Management (TBM) solutions today announced that Sunny Gupta, co-founder, president and CEO, was named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2011 Pacific Northwest Award finalist. The awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in areas such as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. Mr. Gupta was selected as a finalist from nearly 90 nominations by a panel of independent judges. Award winners will be announced at a special award gala on June 10, 2011 at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel & Towers.

“Ernst & Young is well recognized for the high caliber of its awards program, and it’s a tremendous honor to be included among an esteemed group of entrepreneurs and business leaders from across the region,” said Sunny Gupta. “At Apptio, we have created a culture that is committed to innovation, passionate about customer success, and driven by a constant focus on results. By adhering to these values, we’ve built Apptio into one of today’s fastest growing enterprise software companies.”

Mr. Gupta co-founded Apptio in 2007 with the mission to create a Technology Business Management system for CIOs so that they could run their IT organization like a business. The company has grown rapidly over the last four years, signing dozens of Fortune 1000 companies including Bank of America, Boeing, Facebook, JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft, Northrop Grumman and Starbucks, among others. Apptio’s revenue grew by 300 percent last year and it is poised for continued growth on the heels of a $20 million series C round of funding from Andreessen Horowitz, Cisco, Greylock Partners, Madrona Venture Group and Shasta Ventures in November 2010.

Mr. Gupta’s career in enterprise software spans more than 19 years, with roles in general management, strategic marketing, product management and business development. Prior to Apptio, he served as EVP Products at Opsware up to the company’s acquisition by HP for over $1.6 billion. Before that, Mr. Gupta was the Co-Founder and CEO of iConclude, which pioneered the IT runbook automation market. In less than two years, Mr. Gupta drove the company’s acquisition by Opsware for approximately $70 million. He has also run the Java/.NET performance management product group for Mercury Interactive (acquired by HP); served as VP of Marketing and Business Development at Performant (acquired by Mercury Interactive); and served as General Manager of Business Development at Rational Software (acquired by IBM for more than $2 billion).
