Sunny Gupta, Co-founder, President & CEO

Sunny

Sunny’s career in enterprise software spans more than 17 years, with roles in general management, strategic marketing, product management and business development. Sunny was awarded the top 40 CEO under 40 award by American Venture Magazine, serves on board of directors for Skytap and advises companies Likewise and webAppVM. Most recently he was EVP Products at Opsware and was responsible for all of Opsware product businesses up to its acquisition by HP for over $1.6 billion. Prior, Sunny was the co-founder and CEO of iConclude, which pioneered the IT runbook automation market and drove its acquisition by Opsware for approximately $70 million in less than 2 years from inception.

Before founding iConclude, Sunny ran the Java/.NET performance management product group for Mercury Interactive (acquired by HP for more than $4Billion); served as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Performant (acquired by Mercury Interactive); and served as General Manager of Business Development at Rational Software (acquired by IBM for more than $2Billion) and was part of the team that helped scale the company from $300 Million to $850 Million in revenue. He also co-founded Vigor Technology before its acquisition by Rational and held product management and consulting roles at Easel Corporation and IBM. Sunny earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of South Carolina.

Kurt Shintaffer, Co-founder & CFO

Kurt Shintaffer

Kurt brings a broad range of experience in financial and operations management to the company. Prior to co-founding Apptio, Kurt oversaw the corporate finance, legal, accounting, human resource, and information technology functions at iConclude. Kurt was instrumental in completing the successful sale of iConclude to Opsware in 2007.

Before joining iConclude, Kurt was VP of Finance at Pacific Edge Software where he led fundraising efforts that secured over $40 million in venture equity and debt financing. Kurt's tenure at Pacific Edge culminated in the sale of the company to Serena Software. Kurt began his career at Ernst & Young LLP's assurance and advisory business services group. He holds a BA in Business Administration from the University of Washington.

Dan Adams, VP - Central and Western Sales

Dan Adams

Dan Adams brings 15 years of sales experience to lead Apptio's sales efforts for the Central and Western US. His track record of success in enterprise software sales includes opening territories for early stage companies and securing market leadership in high-growth organizations. He has successfully established market leadership positions in such categories as enterprise IT Governance, Project Portfolio Management, IT Infrastructure, Virtual Computing and Compliance Management.

Most recently, Dan served as a Regional Director for Citrix Systems where he managed and grew revenues 27% year-over-year within a $40M business in the North Central region. Prior to Citrix, Dan led the sales efforts for the Central and Western US of Orchestria and prior to that Dan ran the Central Region for Mercury Interactive’s IT Governance products. Dan holds a BS in Finance from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Business.

Eric Berg, VP Product Management and Marketing

Eric Berg

Eric comes to Apptio with over 15 years of experience across engineering, marketing and business development roles in both early stage and high growth infrastructure software businesses. He is responsible for all inbound and outbound marketing for the company.

Prior to Apptio, Eric led the product management and marketing for Microsoft’s System Center family of systems management products growing that business to become the 4th largest systems management vendor in the world. Eric initially joined the Windows Server business at Microsoft responsible for driving the product and marketing strategy for Microsoft’s Dynamic Systems Initiative (DSI).

Prior to Microsoft Eric lead business development and marketing teams at Ensim, a leading provider of cross-platform, automated data center provisioning solutions for the hosting industry. Before Ensim he held various engineering and product management roles at Intel. Eric holds a BSEE from the University of Washington and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Business.

Michael Sullivan, VP - Eastern Sales

Mike Sullivan

Mike brings over 12 years of enterprise software sales experience to Apptio. Most recently, he served as a Strategic Account Executive in the Eastern US for Opsware (and HP post-acquisition) where he grew revenue from $200K to over $16M in less than 4 years. Sullivan was consistently ranked one of Opsware’s top 3 sales executives worldwide.

Prior to Opsware/HP, Sullivan spent 4.5 years as a Major Account Executive for Selectica, Inc., a leading provider of product configuration solutions for large enterprises, growing revenues for his region from $1M to over $30M. Sullivan is a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University where he received his BS in Marketing.

Matt Halls, Senior Director of Engineering

Matt Halls

Matt comes to Apptio with over 20 years of experience in various engineering leadership roles in the software development tools businesses. As Senior Director of Engineering he is responsible for leading the development, architecture, and strategy for the Apptio solution. Prior to Apptio, Matt led a large globally distributed team for IBM Rational that was responsible for creating the base platform and infrastructure used for all the IBM Rational tools.

Prior, Matt was a Director of Engineering for the Rational Visual Modeling product family. Prior to IBM Rational, Matt spent 5 years performing various development roles for the small Ada Compiler company Aonix. Matt holds a BSCS from the San Diego State University.

Paul McLachlan, Chief Architect

Paul McLachlan

Paul joins Apptio after spending a decade building performance and troubleshooting tools for Java and .NET, first at Compuware/NuMega and more recently at Mercury Interactive and HP, where he was the Chief Architect of the Diagnostics component of Business Availability Center and Load Runner.

At Mercury, Paul led a team of 20 engineers through a multi-year (8 release) feature sprint and incremental re-architecture of Diagnostics, taking the product from nearly failing in the market into Gartner's magic quadrant, resulting in a 6x revenue improvement to over $40M/year. Paul holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Technology, Sydney.
